FUI - Taking the competition

Key stages of the competition

Eligibility based on academic record

Eligibility is based on an assessment of the applicant's academic record (transcripts, letter of recommendation, letter of motivation, etc.).

The Eligibility Committee draws up a list of eligible candidates based on the results of the assessment of all the applications.

Oral admission tests

The oral admission tests are :

  • Mathematics (55 min without preparation)
  • Physics (55 min without preparation)
  • General scientific knowledge (30 min of questioning preceded by 30 min of preparation). The test is based on an analysis of scientific documents.
  • Motivational interview (20 min)

In the oral tests, you will be asked to solve one or more mathematics and physics problems, and to comment on a general scientific text taken from leading international journals.

A ranking average is calculated on the basis of the coefficients below, for each candidate who has passed all the tests.

Admission to the École Polytechnique is not final:

  • once it has been established, prior to arrival at the École, that the candidate meets the physical fitness requirements set by the Ministry of Defence
  • after verification, prior to arrival at the École, that the candidate is not in a situation incompatible with the status of student at the École polytechnique.
