PRESENTATION:
This MOOC presents the major themes and issues in current research of the infinitely small and infinitely big, as well as the associated instruments, technologies and applications.
ABOUT THE COURSE
What are the basic components of our Universe? How do they arrange to form matter? How was the Universe formed? How has it evolved in the approximately 14 billion years since the Big Bang?
The “From Particles to Stars” MOOC will lead you on an incredible journey towards the infinitely small and infinitely big. Nearly 70 researchers from IP Paris and Paris Saclay will present the latest major discoveries and the numerous scientific and technological challenges they are faced with.
We will also look at how this research can find applications for society, what skills doctoral researchers can gain from these disciplines, and what kind of potential prospects are available after the completion of a thesis.
AUDIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
This MOOC is aimed at PhD-, master’s- and bachelor’s-level students, as well as anyone interested in fundamental physics and its applications. A third year bachelor’s level of study in science (L3) is sufficient to follow the majority of the teaching. English subtitles are available for this MOOC.
FORMAT
The “From Particles to Stars” MOOC will take place gradually over a period of approximately ten weeks. It comprises three major themes:
The big questions in the physics of the two infinities
Instruments
Applications
The course concludes with an “integration” component.
