École Polytechnique hosted two days of scientific debate ahead of the World Summit on Artificial Intelligence, organized in Paris at the initiative of the French President. Laura Chaubard, President and CEO of École Polytechnique, opened this international scientific conference by emphasizing the far-reaching upheavals that AI is already causing, and X's long tradition of supporting the profound scientific and societal transformations that have taken place since its creation.

On February 6 and 7, the École Polytechnique hosted an international scientific conference on artificial intelligence, organized by the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, ahead of the World Summit on AI held in Paris on February 10 and 11 at the initiative of the President of the French Republic, to promote the development and deployment of AI for the benefit of societies, the economy and the environment, while respecting the general interest and the common good.
The scientific conference hosted by X, entitled “AI, Science and Society” and prepared under the direction of Professor Eric Moulines (École Polytechnique) and Michael Jordan (UC Berkeley/Inria), brought together several thousand participants around round tables with prestigious speakers such as the French Yann LeCun (Meta) and Joëlle Barral (Google DeepMind).
“The rapid progress of AI is not limited to technological advances; it is reshaping the very fabric of our societies. They are forcing us to rethink our relationship to creativity, work, learning, social interactions...” emphasized Laura Chaubard, President of École Polytechnique, as she opened the conference.
“Throughout history, mankind has asked itself these questions - during the Industrial Revolution, the rise of the printing press and the advent of the Internet. But rarely have we faced all these questions simultaneously”, she added.
“École Polytechnique is no stranger to these moments of profound transformation. Founded in 1794, in the midst of the French Revolution, our school was created at a time when France needed to reinvent its entire social model, one built on the foundations of knowledge and science. Today, at the dawn of a new revolution, driven by AI and digital technologies, our institution, with its strong mathematical heritage, is ready to play its part”, Laura Chaubard reminded us.
École Polytechnique is a driving force behind the development of AI thinking, talent, research and innovation, continuing its initiatives as part of the Hi! PARIS center launched in September 2020 and which won a €70 million call for projects as part of the IA Cluster plan launched in June 2023 by the government.
