Regard sur : « Sports and Olympism »
From July 26 to August 11 and from August 28 to September 8, 2024, France will host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Paris, which previously hosted the Olympic Games in 1924, will celebrate the return of this major sporting event to French soil with an opening ceremony that, for the first time, will not take place in a stadium but on the Seine, along a 6 km route, thus marking a symbolic centenary. This event places sports and the Olympic movement at the forefront of current events.
École Polytechnique has always given significant importance to sports in its curriculum. Several polytechnicians have also excelled in sports, becoming champions in various disciplines. Notably, Yves du Manoir (X1924), a rugby player who was selected eight times for the French national team, and more recently, Khalid and Taoufik Lacheb, twin brothers, both X1975 and high-level pole vaulters, respectively the university world champion (1996) and European junior vice-champion (1993).
The 2024 Olympic Games represent a unique opportunity to remember these achievements and further promote sports within École Polytechnique.
On this occasion, the library is joining this celebration of sports and Olympism and invites you to explore a selection of books on the subject at the reception.
You will find books on the history of the Olympic Games, scientific documents explaining sports, practical guides for independent sports practice, and much more.
