Chairs in transport, mobility & space

Chairs

André Citroën

Green mobility, sensors, electrification, batteries

Since its creation, the chair « André Citroën » develops green mobility thanks to its research on electrical engine and battery optimisation. Its research is also focused on NO2 detection and absorption through the introduction of additive synthesis and architectured materials. Thus, the chair held by Éric Charkaluk and supported by the PSA group, ambitions to lower the transports’ carbon imprint.

Holder: Éric Charkaluk, CNRS researcher at the Laboratoire de Mécanique des Solides (LMS – joint research unit CNRS – Ecole Polytechnique) and professor at the Ecole Polytechnique of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris
Sponsorship type: chair

Integrated ubran mobility

Algorithms, optimisation, transportation, social acceptability, applied mathematics, economy

Combining innovation, ecology and urbanism, the chair “Integrated Urban mobility”, founded in 2019 and held by Claudia d’Ambrosio, studies the economic, social, decision-making aspects of urban air mobility, which concerns the integration of electrical Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircrafts in the public transportation offer. Supported by Uber, the chair investigates this establishment in terms of optimisation (trajectories, air traffic control management) and acceptability (visual and noise disturbance), thanks to social studies and 3D virtual reality simulations. Thus, algorithmics and applied mathematics are shaping tomorrow’s transportation system.

Holder: Claudia d’Ambrosio, CNRS researcher at the Laboratoire d’informatique de l’X (LIX – a joint research unit CNRS – Ecole Polytechnique) and professor at the Ecole Polytechnique of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris

IA dans Positive Maintenance

Big data, weak signals, deep learning

The "AI and Positive Maintenance" research initiative, led by Eric Moulines, seeks to anticipate hardware or network failures. To meet this challenge, it is necessary to make sense of the weak signals that can be observed in a large amount of data. Supported since its creation in 2020 by Europorte, the research initiative is studying this problem from the perspective of AIs capable of massively processing data. These AIs will use new machine learning and deep learning methods to reliably detect weak signals.

Holder: Eric Moulines, researcher at the Centre de mathématiques appliquées (CMAP – joint research unit CNRS – Ecole Polytechnique), professor at the Ecole Polytechnique of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris and member of the Académie des sciences
Sponsorship type: research initiative

Space : sciences and spatial applications

Aerospace, aerodynamics, cubestats, transportation, plasmas, astrophysics

Supported since 2019 by ArianeGroup, and since its renewal in 2024 by Safran, the teaching sponsorship « Espace : sciences et défis du spatial » held by Pascal Chabert ambitions to train tomorrow’s aerospace experts. To do so, the Chair’s teachings is based on two cornerstones : firstly space projects housed by the Centre Spatial Etudiant of the Ecole Polytechnique, and secondly high level physics, mechanics, applied mathematics and computing courses.

Holders: Pascal Chabert, CNRS research director at the Laboratoire de physique des plasmas (LPP – joint research unit CNRS – Ecole Polytechnique, Sorbonne Université) and professor at the Ecole Polytechnique of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris
Jean-François Roussel, director of the Physics Instrumentation Environnement Espace department at ONERA
