Christophe Josserand, CNRS researcher and professor at École Polytechnique, and Qiang Du, Fu Foundation Professor of Applied Mathematics at Columbia University, spent three months as visiting professors at the respective other institution in the United States and France. As they crossed paths at École Polytechnique this autumn, they agreed to tell us about their visiting professorships and experience at the partner institutions.

During a three-month visit, two Sudanese researchers, Fatema Mohamed and Maram Ali Ahmed, joined École Polytechnique’s Irradiated Solids Laboratory and strengthened their collaboration with the laboratory’s Theoretical Spectroscopy group on research projects focusing on the simulation of materials’ electronic properties. As they participate in the Optics in the City of Light research experience program, four students from the University of Michigan join École Polytechnique’s laboratories for a two-month internship. Organized with several partners of the University Paris-Saclay, the program focuses on laser research.
