When mechanics make cells talk
In early 2024, Charles Baroud, professor and researcher at the Hydrodynamics Laboratory (LadHyX*), was awarded an ERC Advanced Grants for his Melcart project. Nine students from l’X venture to the University of Tokyo for a research internship
Nine students from École Polytechnique are completing a four-month research internship at the international laboratory ILANCE in Japan. Co-founded by the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the University of Tokyo, the laboratory focuses on astrophysics, neutrino, and cosmology experiments. It is located at the University of Tokyo, a long-standing partner of École Polytechnique. As part of their internships, each student will work on a dedicated research project and have the opportunity to discover scientific research methods in the physics of the two infinities at this international laboratory.

Online platforms: users under influence
The Cambridge Analytica scandal has shown that targeting technologies on online platforms (Google, Facebook, Tik Tok...) go beyond the simple sale of objects or services to invest in the realm of information. The work of Oana Goga, a researcher at École Polytechnique's Computer science laboratory (LIX), studies the impact of these technologies on privacy, security and the manipulation of public opinion. They have fuelled reflection on the European Union's Digital Services Act and are being continued today as part of an ERC Starting Grants fellowship.

EuroTeQaThon 2024: L’X welcomed the participants from nine European partner institutions
École Polytechnique hosted the international competition EuroTeQathon, which brought together more than 130 students, teachers, and experts on June 8-10, 2024. Aligned with this year’s theme, “Enhance Connections for a Sustainable Future,” the participants developed projects proposing innovative solutions to specific environmental and social challenges and pitched them to a jury of experts in entrepreneurship and innovation.

MERGE: biology through A+B
How does a bacterial line behave in the face of a cocktail of antibiotics, cancer cells in the face of chemotherapy, or the Guyanese forest in the face of climate change? AI: €70 million for the “Hi! PARIS Cluster 2030” project led by IP Paris and HEC Paris
A consortium led by the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, of which X is a founding member, and HEC Paris has won a €70 million call for IA Cluster projects. BepiColombo space mission witnesses oxygen and carbon escaping from Venus
On its way to study Mercury, the BepiColombo probe flew over Venus. On board, the MSA instrument, for which the Plasma Physics Laboratory contributed to the design, detected carbon and oxygen ions escaping into space from the Venusian atmosphere. A first in this region.
