Leading École Polytechnique's student delegation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Patricia Crifo, professor at l'X, participated as a speaker in the official COP29 side event "Enhancing and Enabling Climate Solutions with Higher Education" on 18 November. In addition to Patricia Crifo, also Juan Diego Avila Hurtado, a student in École Polytechnique's Master's program in Economics for Smart Cities and Climate Policy, contributed as a panelist to the conference, which aimed to highlight the transformative impact of higher education institutions in addressing climate change.
École Polytechnique strengthens its ties with Bocconi, the world-renowned Italian university specialized in economics, management, finance, law, political science, data and computer science. A Memorandum of Understanding, signed on November 13th will facilitate specific joint projects such as academic student exchanges and the development of double degree programs at master level, combining the strengths of the two institutions.
Since welcoming its first Moroccan student in 1948, École Polytechnique has fostered strong academic and scientific partnerships with institutions in Morocco. This longstanding collaboration was highlighted by the invitation extended to École Polytechnique’s President, Laura Chaubard, to join the French presidential delegation on a state visit to Morocco from October 28 to 30, 2024.
École Polytechnique is strengthening its ties with two first-class academic and scientific institutions in India. During her visit to India in early October 2024, École Polytechnique’s President, Laura Chaubard, signed two student exchange agreements - the first with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) and the second with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi).
As part of the École Polytechnique’s international academic exchange program, more than sixty students from thirty excellent partner institutions across the globe have joined l’X for the start of the 2024 academic year. Students will get the opportunity to discover the French academic and scientific culture at l’X during an exchange semester. They will follow courses within the Bachelor of Science program or the Ingénieur Polytechnicien Program, depending on their specialization and level of study.
Organized by École Polytechnique, this year’s edition of the U7+ Student Forum focused on “AI in Higher Education” and how to maximize its benefits and mitigate its risks. The participating students shared their recommendations with the presidents of the U7+ Alliance to contribute to shaping the best use of AI in Higher Education.
Nine students from École Polytechnique are completing a four-month research internship at the international laboratory ILANCE in Japan. Co-founded by the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the University of Tokyo, the laboratory focuses on astrophysics, neutrino, and cosmology experiments. It is located at the University of Tokyo, a long-standing partner of École Polytechnique. As part of their internships, each student will work on a dedicated research project and have the opportunity to discover scientific research methods in the physics of the two infinities at this international laboratory.
École Polytechnique hosted the international competition EuroTeQathon, which brought together more than 130 students, teachers, and experts on June 8-10, 2024. Aligned with this year’s theme, “Enhance Connections for a Sustainable Future,” the participants developed projects proposing innovative solutions to specific environmental and social challenges and pitched them to a jury of experts in entrepreneurship and innovation.
Awarded by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Eiffel scholarships benefit international students who have distinguished themselves through academic excellence. Fourteen international students of École Polytechnique are among the recipients of the Eiffel Excellence Scholarships 2024, illustrating the global reputation of l’X.
Convinced of the substantial value their double degree in mathematics and physics has provided for students at both institutions since its launch in 2011, École Polytechnique and the Polytechnic of Milan renewed the agreement for another five years. What’s more, in response to the request from the students, the double-degree program has been extended to the Faculty of Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan, enabling students to also specialize in this field, which accounts considerably for the Italian institution’s excellent reputation.
The Presidential Summit of the international alliance U7+, in which École Polytechnique is a founding member, took place at Bocconi University in Italy from April 11 to 12, 2024. Laura Chaubard, Director General and Acting President of École Polytechnique, attended the conference, which brought together the presidents and executives of over 80 universities worldwide to focus on this year’s theme "Inclusive Education for Inclusive Societies". The summit concluded with a formal statement on Global Access to Higher Education, also calling on the G7 to collaborate in four key areas.
Designed specifically for non-French-speaking students as an integral part of their first year in the Ingénieur Polytechnicien program, the preparatory training combines French culture and language classes, scientific courses, sports, and cultural activities. This preparatory program has been developed to help non-French-speaking students become familiar with the academic and social campus environment at École Polytechnique. It takes place while the French and French-speaking international students of the class complete their human and military training. In April 2024, all students of class X2023 will get together for the first academic period of the Ingénieur Polytechnicien program and pursue their engineering studies together.
