Collective movement of cells viewed through the lens of fluid mechanics
Constraining the movement of vascular cells by culturing them on engineered microgrooved substrates generates a new pattern of collective motion that can be predicted using the physical framework of active fluids. This work has been published in Nature Communications by a team from the Hydrodynamics Laboratory.

Tomography system will probe ancient materials
An optical coherence tomography device has been inaugurated at the Optics and Biosciences Laboratory. It will allow three-dimensional imaging at the micrometre scale for research on heritage and ancient materials.

Interview with Patrick Huerre, hydrodynamic instabilities specialist
Patrick Huerre is CNRS Senior Scientist Emeritus and was Professor at Ecole Polytechnique where he co-founded the Hydrodynamics Laboratory with Jean-Marc Chomaz. He has just been awarded the European Society of Mechanics' Fluid Mechanics Prize, for his career devoted to hydrodynamic instabilities.

Élisabeth Borne (X81) appointed Prime Minister
Élisabeth Borne (X81) has been appointed Prime Minister of the French government, the first woman graduate of the Ingénieur Polytechnicien program and second woman to hold this position. She emphasized the symbolic significance of her appointment as École Polytechnique celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the entrance exam to the Ingénieur Polytechnicien program to women.

The French team wins the International Physicists’ Tournament 2022
